Step-by-Step Advocacy Guide

Follow these five steps to move from awareness to action on the Pact for the Future.

1

Pick Your Issue

Browse policy frameworks across UN, AU, and EU systems. Identify which framework applies to your issue. Use the Policy Frameworks page to find the right entry point, or check your Country Track for national gaps.

2

Map Your Stakeholders

Identify who has the power to make the change you seek — county youth directors, MCAs, ministry officials, or UN country teams. Use the Stakeholder Mapping Matrix to organize your analysis.

3

Build Your Case

Use the toolkit templates to structure your argument. Write a policy brief for quick engagement or a full position paper for formal submissions.

4

Take Action

Engage your government directly. Request a meeting, submit your recommendations to Parliament, or apply for inclusion in a policy review process.

5

Track Your Impact

Document your outcomes, count your engagements, and report your advocacy activities through the AUNYD Impact Tracking form. Your reports feed the public Data Hub and demonstrate collective progress across East Africa.

Country Strategic Papers

Use the Country Strategic Paper template to develop key county strategies and annual to 5-year strategic plans. Aligned to the Pact for the Future, SDGs, AU frameworks, and national youth policies. Make a copy and customize for your country context.

Score Your Country on Youth Policy Implementation

Rate how well your country delivers on its commitments to young people across three systems: the UN Pact for the Future, the Sustainable Development Goals, and African Union frameworks including the AU Youth Charter and Continental Framework on Youth Peace and Security. Your scores feed the public Data Hub and shape AUNYD advocacy at national and international level. Takes 15 minutes. Submit quarterly to track progress.

Your responses are anonymous in public reporting. Aggregated scores are displayed on our Data Hub, broken down by country. View the dashboard to see how your country compares.

Tag your activity to the relevant framework and help us track collective progress across the continent. Every activity you log builds the collective picture of what youth across East Africa are doing to implement policy commitments. Your data feeds the public Data Hub and is included in reports to the Irish Embassy, UN agencies, and national governments.
